Shingle roofing is by far the most popular today the cost for the material can vary.

3 tab shingles cost $14.40 a bundle with 3 bundles to the square.

Dimensional shingles $19.26 a bundle with most coming now days in 3 bundles per square.

Felt cost around $20 a roll and will cover 2 to 4 square depending on the type used 30 pound or 15 pound.  The 30 pound felt is a lot better but it cost more because you only get two squares per roll and with 15 pound felt you get 4 squares per roll. Most of the time we see no need in the 30 pound felt because we tear off your roof and the new shingles the same day.

Ice and weather guard cost around $50 a roll and at least one 1 to 2 rolls is needed on every roof.

Pipe boots cost around $10 a piece and there's always at least one on every roof.

Chimney flashing cost around $100 for the material to do the chimney this includes the counter flashing as well as the step flashing and the nail and caulking but not the labor.

To weather proof it let Heffner's roof it

Shingle roofing is not hail proof and if your current roof has been through a hail storm and you have homeowners insurance then for your safety you need to get a roofing company out to your house and give your roof a inspection. Standing on the ground you cannot see hail damage on your roof but usually you can see damage on the gutters and siding but just because your gutters or siding is not showing damage your shingle roofing could still be effected because the shingles on the roof takes all the hail coming down unlike the siding which only gets hit with 25% of the hail.

If a hail storm has gone through your neighborhood you need to try to get pictures of the hail balls and put them beside something like a quarter or a ruler so the size can be determined by looking at the pictures. Then call your insurance company and let them know that a bad storm had blown through and produced hail and you would like a adjuster to come and check your roof out. Then either before or after ( I prefer before so I can let you know ) you need to get a roofing company out there and let you know what there opinion is. It really all comes down to your insurance agent.

On all estimates we do in Ohio we start out by arriving on time to all free estimates made. We write up a professional estimate and you have it before we leave knowing exactly what we are going to charge you to do your roofing. We give a price for 30 year dimensional shingles unless other wise stated in estimate sheet or ask by homeowner to install 3 tab shingles. If the roof is not steep and we can walk on it we will install 15 pound felt but if the roof is steep we will install 30 pound felt. We also use ice and weather guard in all leaks areas like valleys, walls, chimney's, skylights as well as 1 row along all gutter edge on the roof. We use drip edge along the perimeter of your roof. All chimney flashings, pipe flashings, wall flashings, get changed. We use Owens and Corning shingles 90% of the time but we will install any type of shingle roofing you want.

Shingle manufacturer warranty usually is 25 to 50 year and there is some to claim to last a lifetime. There also has been a new shingle that claims to be hail resistant.
